24 June 2010
International workshop organized by the Flemish Policy Research Centre for Sustainable Development and the Committee of the Regions
At the eve of a ‘Rio +20’ summit on sustainable development in 2012 and after the disappointment of Copenhagen in 2009, the debate on the implementation of Agenda 21 and the Rio Declaration is still ongoing. As it is agreed that sustainable development needs to be pursued at all levels, this workshop zooms in on initiatives taken by regions and the challenges they face. In the past decade, many regions have taken steps to institutionalize sustainable development. Moreover, they increasingly try to be involved in European and multilateral decision-making on sustainable development. Bringing together policy-makers and academics, this workshop offers some comparative perspectives on regional approaches for sustainable development and discusses how regions interact and cooperate with national and international levels.
The language of the workshop is English; there is no translation provided.
